PRESS RELEASE
His Excellency Ngwazi Dr. Bingu Wa Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi and Chairperson of the African Union has learned with great disappointment of the recent military coup in the Republic of Niger.
The African Union does not condone unconstitutional takeover of government in Niger or in any other member state of the African Union. Any changes of government should be through recognized democratic process.
The Chairperson of the African Union therefore demands the immediate return to civilian and Constitutional rule in Niger.
The Chairperson is appealing to all peace loving nations in Africa and the rest of the world to join him in condemning this military coup to ensure immediate restoration of peace in Niger.
